Brisbane Waters – November 2019

By Richard Hassall

Col, Terry, John and I set off under a brooding sky from Koolewong boat ramp. A flotilla of 2 which I must flag as a poor attendance effort – I have just put it out there! With limited expectation we headed to the oyster leases to make the best of it and turn a scale. After a slow start and resorting to a burley of bread, Col was first to have a bend in his rod. I followed after with another blind cast effort. As John reached for the barra net, I was concerned the catch would fit through the large holes. Our boat claimed a nice mullet. Col told me he totalled 5 snapper on a sink line on the drop. I am yet to determine whether or not they were snapper, squire, pinkies, red bream or cockneys as they failed to take any pics, however, they were Pagrus auratus.

We both tried numerous spots including Woy Woy bridge, Woy Woy Bay and Channel, Paddies Channel and Pelican Island. The wind picked up and we headed back for for an early BBQ. We contacted captain Col who was just waiting for an excuse to come back in. A great BBQ was had in strong wind and Bunney Junior and Senior made the effort to have a laugh. At least the journey back home took 15 minutes and the boat is running well. PS Terry in the photo looks like he is ready to jump ship?
